Choosing fabrics that align with our values is the first step we can take, both as a company and as individuals, to adopt a more eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle.
When we embarked on our journey, our objective was to create the most sustainable product with the least environmental impact. While we initially considered organic products and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification, we recognized the need for a zero-waste approach that wouldn't require additional resources, even for organic fabric production.
Hence, our decision to utilize existing resources, transforming waste into beautiful, planet-saving products.
We knew we wanted to use recycled fabrics, but with a plethora of choices, selecting the right one was a challenge. We asked questions like, does 'natural' always equate to good, and 'synthetic' to bad? What makes a fabric genuinely sustainable? It's not just about the fabric itself, but also its production, usage, and lifespan. We have to consider factors like how frequently the item will be washed, what happens during washing, and what happens when it's disposed of.
We delved into extensive research on this topic and found one particularly enlightening article by 'good on you,' which explores different materials and presents their top choices. This led us to make our selection.
COTTON
CCotton, one of the most widely used natural fibers, is lightweight and breathable, making it a wardrobe staple. However, conventional cotton farming involves substantial water usage and chemical application, posing a negative impact on the environment and the farmers.
ORGANIC COTTON
Organic cotton serves as a more sustainable alternative to conventional cotton and has gained popularity in recent years. By eliminating harmful pesticides and other chemicals from the production process, organic cotton significantly reduces environmental impact. To uphold high standards, however, organic cotton must be GOTS-certified.
RECYCLED COTTON
For those seeking the pinnacle of sustainable cotton, recycled cotton is the ideal choice. According to the Higg Materials Sustainability Index, recycled cotton outshines both conventional and organic cotton in sustainability.

As a brand, we need to consider the entire production cycle and product lifespan, addressing factors like greenhouse gas emissions in the supply chain, textile waste, and labor rights issues. While this practice is far from industry-standard, we want to demonstrate its feasibility. Opting for the most sustainable fabrics was our starting point, and we continue to scrutinize every stage of the process to facilitate continual improvement.
